The city has released the results of a report on Planning for an Aging Society, prepared by the Aging Research Group. The survey was mailed to a random sampling of adults ages 45 and older in each Council District, and will help us plan our programs and services for a generation of seniors in the areas of health and health care, housing, transportation, social contact with family and friends, care giving, retirement planning, financial well-being, activities and needs.

The Office on Aging is a point of information and referral for
St. Petersburg's older adults. It acts as an advocate on behalf of elders as well as an educational resource to the aging network. The OOA oversees operations of two multi-service centers and three adult centers.
The Office on Aging sponsors annual events such as the Senior Hall of Fame and the Job Fair. Other major events may be quarterly Lunch & Learns, public forums and Health Fairs.
In 2002, the Sunshine Senior Center, 330 Fifth Street North, became the first nationally accredited senior center in the State of Florida. The National Council on Aging and National Institute of Senior Centers recognized the Sunshine Center as continually providing outstanding service, programs and activities to it's older residents. The Center houses agencies such as: Neighborly Senior Services with Congregate Dining and Meals on Wheels; Good Life Games - a senior olympics organization; AARP Foundations Senior Community Service Employment Program; Lion's Club Eye Clinic; Suncoast Center for Community Mental Health; Kids & Kubs 3/4 Century Softball Club Headquarters; St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society; and others.
Suncoast Mental Health Services Counselor is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays by appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
In addition, the Sunshine Center provides a variety of daily activities, programs and educational opportunities.
