Mayor's Mentors & More
For a mere $1,400 you can give an economically disadvantage youth the gift of a college education, as well as, the potential to increase their lifetime income by more than 100 percent! According to the US Census Bureau, college graduates earn an average of $1 million more during their careers than high school graduates. The process for funding these scholarships works as follows: For every $1,400 the Mayor raises, the Pinellas Education Foundation will match it with another $1,400. The State of Florida will then match our $2,800 to total the $5,600 it takes to fund a two-year college scholarship. Please mail your tax-deductible, charitable contribution in check form, payable to:

In January 2010 the City of St. Petersburg, in partnership with Pinellas County Schools, and with funding from America's Promise Alliance presented Operation Graduation: Empowered, Engaged, Involved, a day-long community summit with one sole purpose, to find a way to increase the high school graduation rate in our community. From this summit, a community action plan was formulated that proposes a 2% yearly increase in the number of students graduating from high school, on time, and ready for college or the workforce. This will bring our graduation rate from 76% to 85% over a 5- year period.
